Primošten Resort Vinoteka: Sound Hidden in the Joinery

Primošten Resort

In Primošten, the investor of the Primošten Resort development has a private gentlemen’s bar and wine cellar. We hid 8 K-Array Lyzard speakers and 2 subwoofers in its woodwork, working with the joiners. The room is filled with sound, there is no visible source of it, and the owner picks his own playlists from a tablet.

The Challenge

The investor of the Primošten Resort development wanted music in his private gentlemen's bar and wine cellar, a room of about 35 m² in wood, stone and backlit shelving, with no visible speakers and very little room for an amplifier.

Our Solution

We chose K-Array because its speakers are small enough to disappear into joinery. Eight Lyzard speakers and two subwoofers sit hidden in the woodwork, on one K-Array amplifier fed by a WiiM streamer, with a dedicated tablet so the owner picks his own playlists.

What is this private wine bar in Primošten like?

This is a private gentlemen’s bar and wine cellar (vinoteka) for the investor of the Primošten Resort development, on the coast between Split and Šibenik. The room is about 35 m². It is finished in wood panelling, natural stone and backlit glass shelving full of champagne. The joinery is the point of the room.

In April 2025 the owner asked us to sound it.

What did the owner need?

  1. Invisible sound. Music across the whole room, with no speaker on show, so the focus stays on the interior and the wine.
  2. Cables already in place. The investor had already run the speaker cables.
  3. Little room for electronics. The amplifier had to fit a very small space. An amplifier is the box that powers the speakers.
  4. Simple control for one person. The owner chooses the music himself.

What did we install, and why?

Why K-Array suits a private room like this

In April 2025 we sent the owner two options: a Bose Professional system and a K-Array system. He chose K-Array.

The brief was no visible hardware in a private room where the joinery is the point. So the deciding factor was size. A K-Array Lyzard measures about 2.2 × 10 cm and weighs 59 g. It fits inside the woodwork instead of sitting on it, which is what a room finished like this needs.

Hidden in the wood, with the joiners

We worked with the joiners so the speakers sit inside the joinery, not on top of it. The final system is 8 K-Array Lyzard speakers hidden through the room and 2 subwoofers also hidden in the wood.

A subwoofer is a speaker just for the bass. Small speakers like the Lyzard do not reproduce low bass, so the two subwoofers carry the low end. Two cover the room more evenly than one.

One amplifier, one zone

A zone is an area with its own music and volume. Here the whole room is one zone.

Everything runs on a K-Array Kommander KA04, a compact amplifier with built-in DSP. DSP is the processing inside the amplifier that tunes the sound to the room. It is where the crossover (the split between what the small speakers and the subwoofers play) and the levels are set.

K-Array shipped the equipment from Italy in May 2025. We installed it in late May 2025 on the cable runs the investor had prepared, then connected and commissioned it, which means setting it up on site and checking it works.

How does the owner control the music?

Control is kept simple, for one person. The amplifier is fed by a WiiM streamer, a small player that runs music without a phone or laptop plugged in. A dedicated tablet is the control endpoint.

The owner picks the playlists he wants from that tablet. As on every installation we do, we showed him how it works and continue to support it.

How is the system set up?

In plain terms: A zone is an area with its own music and volume. An amplifier is the box that powers the speakers. A subwoofer is a speaker just for the bass. A streamer is a small player that runs background music without a phone or laptop. DSP is the built-in processing used to tune the sound to the room.

What changed for the owner?

Outcome: the room is filled with sound, and there is no visible source of it.

The owner has full-range music in his bar and cellar, and guests hear it without seeing where it comes from. He has since asked us for proposals for other spaces at the resort.

What did we learn?

Small speakers need a sub plan. Hidden speakers this small need subwoofers to sound full, and two subs spread the bass more evenly than one.

Plan the firmware update path at commissioning. Firmware is the software built into the amplifier. The KA04 could not reach the internet on site, so it stayed on its factory firmware. When its wireless remote later stopped responding, K-Array’s support team pointed to the outdated firmware and to which USB dongle was fitted. The lesson: agree a network connection or an offline update with the client before handover.
