Hotel Olivier Split: Background Music by Zone

Hotel Olivier

Hotel Olivier (formerly Hotel Fanat) is a boutique hotel on the Žnjan seafront in Split. We installed its restaurant sound system in 2025, brought it back after the 2026 renovation, and gave the reception, restaurant and spa their own music. The work ran in phases from June 2025 to September 2026, and today the reception, restaurant and spa each play their own music.

After a renovation and rebrand, the restaurant system went back into service and three Meridian Chapters streamers gave reception, restaurant and spa their own music.

The Challenge

A renovation and rebrand from Hotel Fanat to Hotel Olivier left part of the sound system dismantled, and the reception and spa had no way to play their own music: the existing spa amplifier could not take a second source.

Our Solution

We restored and re-tuned the restaurant system we had installed, put the restaurant and terrace back into service, added Meridian Chapters streamers for the reception and spa, added amplification and cabling where the old wiring fell short, and set up music control on the tablet and staff computers.

What is this Split hotel like?

Hotel Olivier sits on the Žnjan seafront promenade in Split. It has twenty-two rooms, a Mediterranean restaurant with a sea-view terrace, and a spa with an indoor pool and three saunas.

We first worked here in 2025, when the hotel was still called Hotel Fanat. We installed the sound system in the restaurant and a Meridian Chapters music streamer to feed it, and finished the installation in June 2025. A streamer is a small player that runs background music without a phone or laptop; Meridian Chapters is our background-music service.

As an official Bose Professional partner, we built the system on Bose:

  • Interior / breakfast area: a Bose FreeSpace 3 bass module with 6 satellites. The bass module is a speaker just for the low notes; the small satellites carry the rest of the music.
  • Exterior terrace: 4 Bose DesignMax speakers
  • Reception: 2 Bose DesignMax speakers
  • Restaurant amplification: a Bose PowerShare amplifier, the box that powers the speakers

What did the hotel need after the renovation?

In 2026 the hotel went through a renovation and a change of name. When the building work finished, the sound needed attention in several places at once:

  • Speakers removed during the works had to go back in, and the restaurant system needed checking and re-tuning
  • Reception and spa shared one existing amplifier that had no free input for a second music source, so the two areas could not play different music
  • Old cabling in the hotel areas had not been run by us, so every older connection had to be traced and checked
  • Staff control had to be set up again on the computers that run the music day to day

In short: each area needed its own music, and the staff needed simple control.

What did we install, and why?

Restaurant and terrace back in service

We refitted the speakers that had come down during the works, checked the existing system and re-tuned it. We also added shelving to the cabinet that holds the restaurant amplifiers, so the equipment sits properly. The restaurant and terrace went back into service on 8 April 2026.

The restaurant system was designed with separate amplifier outputs for the dining room, the area above the bar, the bass and the reception/outdoor line. That means each one can be set to its own level.

Separate music for reception and spa

On 10 April 2026 we put three Meridian Chapters streamers into service, one each for reception, restaurant and spa, together with an extra amplifier for the spa zone. A zone is an area with its own music and volume.

Two days later we separated the spa and reception completely, using a small amplifier and rewiring the old one. The lower floor now gets proper wellness music, while reception can play lounge or bossa nova. We also added two new channels, Bossanova and Mediteran Instrumental.

Latest phase: Veritas amplifiers (September 2026)

In September 2026 we installed Bose Veritas amplifiers: a Hi-Z one for reception and a Lo-Z one for the corridor. In plain terms, Hi-Z (also called 100 V line) is built for long speaker runs: one amplifier channel feeds many speakers along a corridor or across a building. Lo-Z is built for short runs: fewer speakers per channel, with fuller sound from each. We also pulled new cable and checked the speakers. The work was signed off on 13 September 2026, after four site visits.

Independent zones, built in phases

The work ran in phases over 2025 and 2026: the restaurant system first, then separate streams for reception and spa, then the Veritas amplifiers. The result mixes the older Lo-Z parts of the system with new Hi-Z ones. For the staff, none of that matters day to day: each zone’s music and volume are controlled independently.

How do the staff control the music?

Control is split by area, and each area has one simple place to change it.

  • Restaurant: one tablet carries both amplifier-level control and Meridian Chapters streamer control, so staff pick the playlist and set the volume from the same screen
  • Reception: completely separate, with its own control in our web app for playlist and volume
  • Spa: a Meridian Chapters control link on the reception computer, so staff change the spa playlist and volume without touching the amplifiers
  • Channels: lounge, jazz, classical, bar, party, groove, spa and Croatian music, Bossanova and Mediteran Instrumental, plus a Christmas channel in December
  • Schedules: the streamers can be programmed to switch on and off on a schedule, so nobody has to remember to start the music
  • Training: as on every installation we do, we trained the staff on the system, and we continue to support it

Where does it stand today?

Hotel Olivier now runs three independent music zones from one streaming service: reception, restaurant and spa. The restaurant system we built is back in operation after the renovation, terrace included. Staff manage the music from the restaurant tablet, the reception web app and the reception computer. The hotel management’s own words on the result are quoted below.

How is the system set up?

In plain terms: A zone is an area with its own music and volume. An amplifier is the box that powers the speakers. A streamer is a small player that runs background music without a phone or laptop.
