Intimate Beach Ceremony on Brac
Private Client
The Challenge
A 60-guest intimate beach wedding on Brac island, with the ceremony on the sand and reception at a nearby restaurant. The beach location meant no power, wind exposure from the maestral breeze, and sand in everything. The couple wanted the ceremony to feel natural — not like a concert production.
Our Solution
Minimalist battery-powered audio for the ceremony with wind-protected speaker positioning. Our Audio Director managed levels in real-time as wind conditions changed. For the reception, we handled the venue transition seamlessly with a pre-rigged restaurant system, creating a distinct atmosphere shift from beach ceremony to dinner party.
The Wedding
A intimate destination wedding for 60 guests — mostly close family and the couple’s travel community friends — on one of Brac’s secluded beaches. The vision: barefoot ceremony on the sand, followed by dinner and dancing at a family-run konoba overlooking the water.
The Challenge: Nature Doesn’t Care About Your Timeline
Beach weddings on the Dalmatian coast face unique challenges:
- The maestral wind — The afternoon sea breeze that makes summer bearable also makes audio a nightmare
- No power — Beaches don’t have outlets
- Sand — It gets everywhere, including inside expensive equipment
- Sun exposure — Electronics and direct sunlight don’t mix
- Acoustics — Open air means zero reflections, requiring more speaker coverage
The couple’s brief: “We want to hear our vows. We don’t want it to look like a concert.”
Our Solution: Invisible Production
The Ceremony Setup
Equipment (Minimal)
- 2x Bose S1 Pro (battery-powered)
- 2x Wireless lavalier microphones
- 1x Backup wireless handheld
- Sand covers for all equipment
- Shade canopy for speaker protection
Positioning Rather than speakers flanking the ceremony arch (the “concert” look), we positioned them:
- Hidden behind natural rock formations
- Angled to project toward guest seating
- Low to the ground to minimize wind interference
Active Management Our Audio Director stayed within arm’s reach of the speakers throughout the 25-minute ceremony, making constant micro-adjustments:
- Volume changes as wind gusted
- EQ adjustments as conditions shifted
- Speaker angle tweaks between vows and music
- Background music level during emotional moments
The result: guests could hear every word without ever seeing a speaker.
The Transition
The 45-minute window between ceremony and reception required orchestration:
3:30pm — Ceremony ends, guests walk to beach bar for aperitivo 3:35pm — We break down ceremony gear (2 people, 10 minutes) 3:45pm — Load equipment into van 4:00pm — Arrive at restaurant venue 4:15pm — Connect to pre-rigged system (set up day before) 4:20pm — Sound check with DJ 4:30pm — Guests arrive for dinner
The pre-rigged restaurant system was key. We’d installed the main PA the day before during restaurant’s closed hours, meaning the transition was just connecting our mixer and DJ gear.
The Reception
Atmosphere Shift The beach ceremony was intimate and natural. The restaurant reception needed to feel like a celebration.
| Phase | Time | Vibe | Music |
|---|---|---|---|
| Arrival | 4:30pm | Elegant | Acoustic covers |
| Dinner | 5:30pm | Warm | Mediterranean lounge |
| Speeches | 7:00pm | Emotional | Background minimal |
| First Dance | 8:00pm | Romantic | Couple’s song |
| Party | 8:30pm | Energy | Building house/disco |
| Late Night | 11:00pm | Intimate | Sunset vibes redux |
Our DJ read the room perfectly — this wasn’t a crowd that wanted club music until 3am. By midnight, the last guests were enjoying one more glass of wine with acoustic music fading out.

What Made It Work
- Pre-rigging — Anything that can be set up in advance, should be
- Active management — Beach ceremonies need constant attention
- Invisible equipment — Hidden speakers maintain the natural aesthetic
- Venue relationship — Restaurant owner let us access the day before
- Right DJ — Someone who reads intimate crowds, not just clubs
Lessons for Beach Weddings
Do:
- Budget for active audio management
- Use battery-powered speakers for ceremony
- Pre-rig reception venue when possible
- Bring sand/dust covers for everything
- Plan for the maestral wind (it’s predictable)
Don’t:
- Assume beach = simple setup
- Position speakers where guests can see them
- Skip the shade protection for electronics
- Underestimate sand infiltration
- Forget backup batteries
The Takeaway
Intimate doesn’t mean easy. In fact, smaller weddings often have higher expectations — every detail is noticed. The 60 guests at this wedding heard every word of the vows, felt every emotional music cue, and danced until they were ready to stop.
No one commented on the production. That’s the point.
