The Challenge
A 180-guest destination wedding on Hvar island with no permanent audio infrastructure at the villa venue. All equipment needed to travel via ferry with a 4-hour crossing, and the international guests expected flawless execution across a 12-hour event spanning ceremony, cocktails, dinner, and late-night party.
Our Solution
Full production deployment with redundant equipment. We arrived a day before to handle ferry logistics and complete setup, with a dedicated Audio Director remaining on-site throughout. Battery-powered ceremony audio ensured no generator noise during vows, while the main system handled the transition from ambient dinner music to full dance floor.
The Wedding
An intimate destination wedding bringing together 180 guests from the UK, Croatia, and across Europe at a stunning hillside villa overlooking Hvar town. The couple wanted three distinct atmospheres across the day — intimate ceremony, elegant dinner, and unforgettable party — all flowing seamlessly into each other.
The Challenge: Island Logistics
Hvar is beautiful. Hvar is also a logistical puzzle.
The villa had no permanent sound infrastructure, meaning we needed to bring everything:
- Full PA system capable of 200 guests
- Ceremony audio (battery-powered for silence)
- Wireless microphones for speeches
- DJ equipment
- Backup for every critical component
All of this needed to cross by ferry, navigate the narrow roads to the villa, and be set up in time for a sunset ceremony.
Our Approach
Day Before: Setup
We caught the 6am catamaran from Split with:

Setup complete by 6pm, full sound check with the couple by 8pm, early dinner, early sleep.
Wedding Day: 12-Hour Production
4pm — Ceremony Battery-powered speakers for the ceremony meant zero generator hum during the vows. The celebrant and couple used wireless lavalieres for natural sound. Background music transitioned seamlessly from acoustic covers to the recessional.
5pm — Cocktails Repositioned audio for the terrace cocktail hour. Light jazz and bossa nova while guests enjoyed the Hvar sunset. Wireless mic ready for the father-of-the-bride toast.
7pm — Dinner Ambient electronic music kept the atmosphere elegant. Our Audio Director managed all announcements and coordinated with the wedding planner for each speech.
10pm — Party DJ took over. The transition from dinner to dance floor happened organically — no awkward “please move to the dance floor” announcement. By 11pm, everyone was dancing.
2am — Late Night Reduced volume for the final hour as requested by the venue. Acoustic versions of the evening’s highlights brought the night to a close.
What We Learned
Island weddings need:
- Earlier-than-early arrival — We budget 24 hours minimum
- Double redundancy — Not just backup equipment, but backup backup equipment
- Battery-powered options — Generators and ceremonies don’t mix
- On-site expertise — An Audio Director who stays the entire event
- Venue relationships — We know which venues need generators and which have reliable shore power
