Hotel AV System Integration Guide for Croatia
Everything hotel managers need to know about professional AV installations — from lobby ambiance to poolside entertainment systems.
A behind-the-scenes look at our multi-zone audio design process for hotels in Croatia. From lobby to poolside, how we create soundscapes that guests actually notice and remember.
Cosmic Production
At Cosmic Production, we’ve worked on many hospitality projects across Croatia and the EU, and we’ve noticed one recurring theme: audio is often the most overlooked design element.
Guests might not consciously notice a great sound system, but they will feel it. The right soundscape can make a breakfast area feel lively and welcoming, a spa serene and intimate, or a rooftop bar energetic and social. Conversely, low-quality sound thin, harsh, or uneven and that can subconsciously cause some discomfort, make spaces feel cheaper, and even shorten guest dwell time and as a result negatively affect revenue.
Unfortunately, many hotels install budget speakers as an afterthought, often chosen purely for price or aesthetics. While understandable from a cost perspective, this decision can dramatically reduce the perceived value of the entire space.
The good news? You don’t necessarily need a massive budget; just strategic planning, smart placement, and professional tuning.
Just like lighting, sound should be evenly distributed throughout the space. If some corners are silent while others are loud, the overall experience feels unbalanced. Guests moving through lobbies, corridors, restaurants, or terraces should perceive a consistent and pleasant sound field.
Speaker placement should be planned early in collaboration with architects or designers. Ideally, every “listener zone” where guests actually spend time should receive a clear, balanced audio experience.
High-end audiophiles often obsess over perfect stereo imaging for a single listener. But in hotels, the listener is the crowd. The goal isn’t pinpoint precision, it’s immersion.
Think about where guests will stand, sit, and move. In restaurants, the focus might be mid-range clarity for conversation. In lounges or pools, you may want a more enveloping sound. And in entrances or corridors, a soft, welcoming background that transforms the mood from street to sanctuary.
As the classic rule of speaker placement goes: the nearer the speakers are to walls and corners, the stronger the bass. This can be used creatively in hospitality spaces. For example, slightly boosting warmth in dining areas or keeping open-air terraces sounding full without overpowering guests.
However, too much proximity can cause muddy sound. Finding the right balance (often about one-third into the room length) creates both clarity and depth. This is a concept borrowed from high-end home audio but perfectly applicable to hotels in a way.
Professional audio systems aren’t just louder they’re also smarter. Modern amplifiers with built-in DSP (digital signal processing) allow fine-tuning frequencies to match the room’s acoustics. This ensures that no area feels too sharp or too bass-heavy, even with reflective surfaces like marble or glass.
And yes, cables matter. We often see installations where cables run alongside fridges, AC units, or other high-EMF devices, introducing unwanted noise. Proper cabling routes and quality connectors make a noticeable difference in overall clarity and reliability.
Great sound isn’t just technical, it’s very much emotional. The right entrance soundscape can turn a simple arrival into a memorable transition: from street noise to a calm, curated atmosphere. A poolside playlist that subtly adapts throughout the day can encourage guests to stay longer. A warm, well-balanced dining soundtrack can increase dwell time and spending.
Think of your sound system as not an expense, but an investment in guest experience.
The best time to think about sound is before construction or renovation begins. Hotel architects and electro-projectants often focus on wiring and electrical capacity, but without proper acoustic consideration, opportunities for better sound are lost.
That’s where we come in.
