The moment bass drops on a stone courtyard dance floor and 250 guests feel it in their chest — that is the line between background music and a proper celebration. The Garden & Courtyard System adds an 18-inch Pioneer subwoofer to the proven XPRS 122 monitor pair, creating a full-range PA system that delivers 135 dB max SPL and 1,800W RMS of combined power.
Experience Profile
- Guest Count: 200-400
- Setting: Large estate gardens, hotel courtyards, beachfront terraces, outdoor dance floors
- Atmosphere: Full-range dance floor energy — bass you feel, clarity you hear across the entire space
- Why This System: The transition point from ambient audio to dance floor system. The subwoofer transforms the listening experience, creating physical bass impact that gets guests out of their seats. Our most cost-effective option with dedicated sub-bass.
The Garden & Courtyard System adds an 18-inch Pioneer subwoofer to the proven XPRS 122 monitor pair, creating a full-range PA system that delivers 135 dB max SPL and 1,800W RMS of combined power. This is the configuration we deploy for Croatian destination weddings and events hosting 200 to 400 guests where a dedicated dance floor needs to feel the bass, not just hear it. The sub extends low-frequency response down to 40 Hz, which transforms the system from a vocal-and-mids setup into a genuine dance floor audio system. For wedding planners coordinating celebrations at large Dalmatian estate venues, hotel courtyards, or beachfront locations, the addition of a subwoofer makes a tangible difference to how guests experience the music during the party phase of the evening. The physical impact of bass frequencies below 80 Hz creates the energy that gets people out of their seats — something that top speakers alone, regardless of their quality, cannot fully replicate. This set is the point in our speaker range where the audio transitions from background music and dinner accompaniment to a proper dance floor system.
What’s Included
- 2x Pioneer XPRS 122 — 12-inch active two-way monitors, 1,000W RMS / 4,000W peak per unit, 131 dB max SPL each, with onboard DSP
- Pioneer XPRS 118 Sub — 18-inch active subwoofer, 1,200W RMS / 4,800W peak, response down to 40 Hz, with variable crossover and polarity switch
- 2x tripod speaker stands for the monitors
- All XLR cables, power cables, and a power distribution board
The Complete System Explained
The signal chain in the Garden & Courtyard System routes from the audio source (DJ controller, mixer, or laptop) into the Pioneer XPRS 118 subwoofer first. The sub has a built-in crossover that splits the incoming signal: low frequencies below the crossover point (adjustable, typically set around 100-120 Hz) are reproduced by the 18-inch driver in the sub, while the remaining mid and high frequencies pass through to the two XPRS 122 monitors via the sub’s thru-outputs.
This crossover architecture means the XPRS 122 monitors are relieved of low-frequency duty. Instead of trying to reproduce bass — which a 12-inch speaker can do to an extent, but at the cost of distortion and reduced headroom — the monitors focus entirely on mids and highs, where they excel. The result is noticeably cleaner vocals, crisper percussion, and a more defined stereo image compared to running the same monitors without a sub.
The XPRS 118 subwoofer handles the low-frequency content with a 1,200W RMS amplifier driving an 18-inch cone. Its polarity switch allows phase alignment with the top speakers, which we adjust during setup to ensure coherent bass response at the listening position. The variable crossover provides flexibility to match different venue acoustics — in reverberant stone-walled spaces, we set a lower crossover to reduce bass buildup; in open-air venues, a higher crossover ensures bass energy is well-supported.
Each XPRS 122 monitor sits on a tripod stand at head height, positioned to the left and right of the main event area for stereo coverage. The sub is placed on the ground, typically centred in front of the dance floor or offset to one side, depending on the venue layout. This arrangement creates a three-point sound system: stereo imaging from the tops and omnidirectional bass energy from the sub, resulting in a full-range audio experience that fills the space naturally.
Ideal For
- Destination wedding receptions with 200-400 guests and a dedicated dance floor
- DJ-driven events at large terraces, hotel courtyards, and beachfront venues
- Live band support where the PA needs to handle full-range instruments and vocals
- Outdoor concert-style private events on Croatian islands
- Corporate events with entertainment requiring impactful sound
Not Ideal For
- Events exceeding 400 guests or very large open-air spaces — upgrade to the Estate Audio System with RCF 15-inch tops and sub for 136 dB and broader coverage
- Events under 100 guests where the sub is unnecessary — the Multi-Zone Audio System offers the same clarity at lower volume without the subwoofer
- Venues with strict noise restrictions — the sub output may exceed local limits; we can advise on compliance
How It Works
We deliver, position, and cable the system at your venue. Setup takes approximately 25 minutes. The subwoofer is placed on the ground near the DJ or centred in front of the dance floor. The two XPRS 122 monitors go on tripod stands positioned to cover the width of the event area. We set the crossover frequency and DSP presets during installation. You need 230V/50Hz mains power — the full system draws approximately 2,000W at peak, requiring a dedicated 16A circuit. We supply a power distribution board and 20-metre cable runs. Island delivery is coordinated via ferry with setup buffer time.
Sound Coverage and Venue Matching
The three-component system (two tops plus sub) provides full-range coverage from 40 Hz to 20 kHz at up to 135 dB max SPL. This is a substantial step up from the two-monitor Medium set and covers significantly larger spaces.
Large outdoor terraces and gardens: Position the XPRS monitors 8-12 metres apart on stands, with the subwoofer centred between them at ground level. This covers approximately 200-300 square metres at sustained dance-floor volume. For Croatian estate venues with large stone terraces overlooking the sea, this arrangement fills the space without the monitors needing to work at their limits.
Hotel courtyards and enclosed outdoor spaces: Stone walls create natural bass reinforcement, so in a courtyard setting, we reduce sub output by 15-20 percent to prevent boomy low-end buildup. The monitors cover the mid and high frequencies with their usual clarity, and the walls help project sound to all corners of the space.
Indoor function halls: In enclosed rooms up to 300 square metres, this system fills the space comfortably. The sub may need further output reduction indoors to maintain tight, controlled bass rather than overwhelming resonance. We adjust this during sound check.
Guest count guidance: 200-300 guests is the comfort zone for this set at full dance-floor energy. At 300-400 guests in an enclosed or semi-enclosed space, the system performs well. Above 400 guests, or in a fully open-air space with 300+ guests, the Estate Audio System with RCF 935-A tops and SUB 8003 provides the additional headroom and projection needed.
Setup Timeline
- Minute 0-5: Unload the subwoofer and monitors from the vehicle. Position the subwoofer at its planned location (ground level, typically centred in front of the dance floor).
- Minute 5-12: Set up tripod stands at the planned positions flanking the event area. Mount the XPRS 122 monitors on the stands.
- Minute 12-18: Run XLR cables from the audio source to the subwoofer input, then from the sub thru-outputs to each XPRS monitor. Connect all power cables to the distribution board and 230V outlets.
- Minute 18-25: Power on the system. Set the crossover frequency on the sub (typically 100-120 Hz). Adjust the DSP presets on the monitors. Play a reference track, walk the venue to evaluate coverage and bass impact, and fine-tune levels and sub polarity. System is live.
For island events, this set requires a vehicle for transport. We book a vehicle ferry slot as soon as the rental is confirmed and arrive on an early crossing with at least a 2-hour buffer. During peak season on popular routes like Split-to-Hvar and Split-to-Brač, ferry bookings must be secured well in advance. The subwoofer weighs approximately 40 kg, which requires two people for hand-carry if the venue is not vehicle-accessible — we plan for this in advance with your venue coordinator.
How This Set Compares
The Garden & Courtyard System sits between the Multi-Zone Audio System at 260 EUR and the Estate Audio System at 300 EUR. The Medium set uses the same XPRS 122 monitor pair but without a subwoofer, plus a Bose S1 Pro Plus for fill. It covers 50-200 guests and delivers clean mids and highs, but lacks the sub-bass impact for a proper dance floor.
The Extra Large set replaces the entire Pioneer system with RCF 935-A 15-inch tops and an RCF SUB 8003 subwoofer. It delivers 136 dB max SPL (versus 135 dB), extends bass response to 30 Hz (versus 40 Hz), and features RCF’s FiRPHASE processing for phase-coherent sound at high volume. The Extra Large set is designed for 300-600+ guests and larger open-air spaces.
Choose the Large set when your event is in the 200-400 guest range, when the venue is a mid-to-large terrace or courtyard, and when you want a full-range dance floor system at a competitive price. It is the most cost-effective option in our range that includes a dedicated subwoofer.
Croatian Event Planning Guide
Season and weather: The Large set is in highest demand from June through September for wedding receptions and private events. Summer outdoor events are the primary use case. For events in the shoulder season, rain contingency is important — the XPRS monitors and subwoofer are built for touring but should not be left exposed in sustained downpour. We recommend a backup indoor or covered position for the speakers if rain is forecast.
Bura wind and exposed venues: The XPRS 122 monitors on tripod stands are susceptible to Bura gusts above 50 km/h. We provide weighted bases and ratchet straps for exposed positions. The subwoofer, at approximately 40 kg, is inherently stable on the ground. For beachfront and cliffside venues along the Makarska Riviera or around Dubrovnik, we discuss wind contingency with your venue coordinator and identify sheltered backup positions.
Island logistics: This set requires a vehicle for transport due to the weight of the subwoofer and monitors. We book vehicle ferry passages in advance for all island deliveries. For venues on islands with no vehicle access (pedestrian-only old towns, hillside paths), we coordinate hand-carry logistics, which adds approximately 20-30 minutes to setup time. Popular island destinations include Hvar, Brač, Korčula, and Vis.
Noise regulation compliance: The subwoofer extends low-frequency response to 40 Hz, and bass frequencies travel farther than mids and highs. For venues near residential properties or hotels, we work with you to manage bass levels, particularly after 23:00 when most Croatian municipalities enforce noise restrictions. The sub’s variable output allows us to reduce bass during late-night hours while maintaining mid and high-frequency energy for dancing.
Power requirements and venue verification: Total peak draw is approximately 2,000W, requiring a dedicated 16A circuit (3,680W capacity). We recommend confirming with your venue that a suitable outlet is available within 20 metres of the planned speaker positions. Older Croatian estates and heritage venues may have limited electrical capacity — we bring distribution boards and surge protection, and can advise on generator specifications if needed. A 3 kVA generator is sufficient for this set.
Upgrade Options
- Swap the Pioneer monitors and sub for the Estate Audio System with RCF 935-A 15-inch tops and RCF SUB 8003 for more headroom at larger venues
- Add a Bose S1 Pro Plus as a battery-powered fill speaker for a ceremony or cocktail zone
- Add a Shure GLXD24 wireless microphone for speeches and toasts
- Pair with the Grand Celebration System or Prestige Production System — replace the included speakers with this set for a bass-heavy dance floor
Commonly Asked
Do I need a technician for the Garden & Courtyard System?
For a straightforward placement with a single DJ source, no — we configure the DSP presets and crossover during setup. For events where levels need active management (live bands, DJ sets exceeding 300 guests, or noise-sensitive venues), a technician on-site is recommended.
Can this set work outdoors in Croatia?
Yes. The Pioneer XPRS series is designed for portable live sound and we regularly deploy this set at open-air Croatian venues including beachfront and fortress locations. The subwoofer performs well outdoors, though bass dissipation in open air means we sometimes angle or elevate it for best results.
What are the power requirements for this set?
230V/50Hz mains power with a dedicated 16A circuit. Total peak draw is approximately 2,000W. We supply a power distribution board, all cabling, and 20-metre extension runs. If your venue has limited electrical capacity, we can advise on generator specifications.
How far in advance should I book the Garden & Courtyard System?
For peak season (June through September), we recommend booking 3-4 weeks in advance. The XPRS 122 monitors and 118 sub are popular components, and weekend availability during July and August fills up. Island events benefit from earlier booking for ferry coordination.
Can I add extra speakers to extend coverage for a larger space?
Yes. Adding a second pair of XPRS 122 monitors as delay speakers extends coverage for deeper venues or very large terraces. Adding a second XPRS 118 sub increases bass output and enables cardioid sub deployment. Contact us with your venue layout and guest count, and we will recommend the right configuration.
What happens if a component fails during the event?
All components are tested before delivery. If the subwoofer fails, the XPRS monitors continue operating as a full stereo system (reverting to the Medium set configuration). If a monitor fails, the remaining monitor provides mono coverage while the sub continues. Our WhatsApp support line provides immediate troubleshooting.
Does island delivery cost extra?
Delivery to major islands (Hvar, Brač, Korčula, Vis, Šolta, Mljet) is included in the base price. Remote islands requiring multiple ferry connections carry a surcharge. The exact amount is confirmed at booking.
Can this set be used with a live band instead of a DJ?
Yes. The Pioneer XPRS 122 monitors and 118 sub accept XLR input from any mixing desk, making them suitable for live band reinforcement. The system handles vocals, instruments, and bass with full-range clarity. For bands with their own mixing desk, we connect the main outputs directly to the sub input and let the crossover distribute frequencies to the monitors.
